Resume

George Kaliampos is an Assistant Professor in ‘Physics Education’ at the Department of Educational Sciences and Early Childhood Education (DESECE) in University of Patras (Greece). He studied Physics at the Department of Physics in University of Patras (1999-2004) and holds an MA in ‘Science Education’ from University of Leeds (UK) (2004-2005) and an MA in ‘Professional Development in Special Needs’ from University of Nottingham (UK) (2007-2008). He received his Ph.D. entitled 'Exploring alternative ideas on mechanics of adolescents with high functioning autism spectrum disorder’ from the Department of Special Education, University of Thessaly, Greece (2013-2018). He teaches courses related to ‘physics education’ at DESECE. He also works as a ‘Personal Advisor for Teaching practice’ (practicum) in the joint ‘MEd in Special Education’ of Universities of Patras (Greece) and Nicosia (Cyprus). He is a reviewer in various scientific journals and conferences. In the past, he has worked as an instructor of undergraduate courses at DESECE (2019-2023). In addition, he has worked for several consecutive years as a physics teacher in various public secondary schools (2008-2024).


Research interests

His research interests mainly focus on teaching and learning processes in the area of Physics, the study of alternative ideas of typically developing children as well as those who fall within the special education spectrum, and the design and implementation of teaching interventions for teaching Physics concepts. He is also interested in exploring ways of teaching Physics through contemporary Socio-scientific Issues (SSI).
