In 1982 the Higher Schools of Kindergarten Teachers and the Pedagogical Academies were upgraded to University Pedagogical Departments of Kindergarten Teachers and Pedagogical Departments of Primary Education, respectively.
According to the provisions of Presidential Decree 320/1983, the mission of the University Pedagogical Departments is to promote the Pedagogical Sciences, to cover the needs of education in pedagogical issues and to provide their graduates with excellent scientific training for their professional career.
In the year 2005 our Department was renamed from the Pedagogical Department of Kindergarten Teachers to the Department of Educational Sciences and Early Childhood Education (DESECE), which reflects the modern scientific, research and educational orientation of the studies.
