Course : (ΖΔΕ223) Dimensions of Interculturality and Otherness in Education (MA)
Curriculum : It is a theoretical course that renegotiates the concepts of new collective and individual identities in the social and ideological contexts of globalization. This study is based on three dimensions: The first dimension refers to the analysis and effects of nationalism, neoliberalism and socio-political pluralism as the most important ideological ‘narratives’ towards the formation of diversity and consequently of sociocultural learning about citizenship. The weakening of static national identities is set in a context of education transformation and state renegotiation. A second dimension is the study of the "right to cultural self-differentiation" and in general the "difference" in the context of modern multicultural societies. More specifically, the timeless response of societies to cultural differentiation is studied through the mechanisms of assimilation, recognition and inclusion or integration processes. An attempt is made to connect these narratives with the issues of social justice and inclusion through the formation of new collectives that contribute to social cohesion but also with the right of modern citizens to professionalization in a working environment that exploits productive diversification. Finally, the third dimension is the formation of an intercultural educational approach that provides the possibility of intercultural awareness, communication and acquisition of intercultural skills necessary for work in local and international environments or in new social spaces such as that of the Greek Diaspora. Here, basic educational policy approaches of intercultural education are studied, with special reference on transformative education (the Greek diaspora and the forms of Greek language education will be used as examples).
