Course objectives:
Students attending this course will be able, by the end of this semester, to:
• creatively and critically plan open activities of physical education, based on the developmental characteristics and needs of all children, and involve them in their evaluation,
• integrate physical education activities in the educational routine by using a multidimensional, holistic approach, and
• contribute to children’s development of positive attitudes and experiences regarding health promotion and lifelong exercise.
Course content:

• Function of the human body
• Nutrition and childhood obesity
• Physical development in early years
• Motor development in early years
• Principles of physical condition development
• Body training methods in Greek kindergarten
• Psychomotor education
• Movement education in kindergarten curriculum
• Physical education today
• Design of programmes and teaching methods in physical education
• Inclusive education for children with different motor abilities
• The role of the teacher
• Systematic observation and assessment of the child’s motor development
Teaching method: Students’ education is participatory and is founded on group work and discussion, lectures, use of audiovisual material, personal inquiry and practical exercises.
Evaluation:
Student evaluation will be achieved through the final exams and the assignments that will be delivered for the laboratory part of the course.
Course evaluation is based on professor’s self-evaluation and on students’ feedback.
