Description : By the end of the course students: - (they) will have comprehended and will distinguish the modern basic significances of Children’s Literature History, - (they) will have been informed about the historical development of Greek and European Literature for Children, - (they) will have comprehended the transition from Literature for adults to Literature for Children, - (they) will have come in contact with the long-standing authors and with their works, while they might comprehend the historical and social frame of literary production for children, - (they) will recognize the adaptations and transformations of the literary texts (mainly those of 19th century) for children, - (they) will have come in contact with the modern literary production for children (authors, tendencies-representative works, aesthetic traits, themes). After the completion of the course, students will have developed further the ability: - to comprehend and interpret the historical frame of creation and function of literary production for children, - to deepen in historical perspectives of Literature for Children and to develop them more effectively in the class, - to enrich the methods they employ, - to elect the value and the particular contribution of specific work-landmarks and their authors, - to seek the interconnections of Greek Literature for Children with the European literary production and to extend their philological knowledge.

Outline : 1. Introduction to the History of Literature for Children (basic significances and distinctions). 2. Concise historical diagram of Greek Literature for Children (basic landmarks, main representatives). 3. Literary texts for children in the Antiquity, in the Middle Ages, in the Modern era- The evolutional process of literary texts for children (Poetry, Short story, Novel). 4. From Literature for adults to the Literature for Children. 5. Adaptations and transformations of the literary texts for children-The Greek experience of 19th century. 6. Historical and social frame of creation of modern Greek Literature for Children (19th-20th century-main traits and themes). 7. Analytical presentation of longstanding Greek authors and representative works [ L. Melas (Gerostathis), D. Vjkelas (Loukis Laras), P. Delta, Gr. Xenopoylos, A. Metaxa, E.Tantalidis, G.Vizyinos , A. Pallis, Z. Papantoniou, et al] – Journals for children. 8. Modern literary production for children (tendencies-representative works, aesthetic traits, issues) - Main representatives authors (A. Zei, Z. Sari, A. Varella, M. Kontoleon, L. Petrovits-Androutsopoulou, et al). 9. Cypriot Literature for Children (periods, representatives authors-representative works). 10. Literature for Children in Europe (England-France)
