Description : Βy the end of this introductive/basic course students:
- (they) might distinguish the conceptual content of terms and the particularly defining elements of Literature for Children,
- (they) will have been familiarized with the basic principles of Theory and Criticism of Literature for Children,
- (they) will have come in contact with the basic literary genres and with the ways of their exploitation in the Preschool Education,
- (they) will know modern tendencies and approaches to children’s literary texts.
After the completion of the course, the students will have developed further the competence:
- to cultivate their critical disposal towards the literary texts that are addressed to children,
- to deepen in theoretical significances and to use them more effectively in the class,
- to enrich their methods and their techniques,
- to seek for more effective ways of offering literary texts to the children.
Outline : As a basic, introductory course, it includes:
1. Introductive concepts-Clarification of terms ("Literature", "Literature for Children").
2. Conceptual determination and peculiar character of Literature for Chil-dren.
3. Introduction to the Theory and the Criticism of Literature for Children.
4. The child as a reader and critic of Literature for Children.
5. Form and content of literary texts for children–Terms of appropriateness - Criteria of choice.
6. Basic genres of literary texts in Preschool Education [ Fairy tales, Fa-bles, Short-stories, Poetry, Picture Books (techniques-methods), Thea-tre (forms-type) ].
7. Story-telling (types, techniques, codes, activities).
8. Modern tendencies and approaches to literary texts for children (humor, metafiction, intertextuality, etc.)
