Description : Students are expected to be acquainted with the basic issues of educational policy and to be able to correlate their theoretical background with the everyday educational practices. They will become familiar with basic theoretical aspects of the field and will get the appropriate skills in order for them to critically approach and analyse specific educational issues.

Outline : The course
-Examines the relationship between education, state, society and economy
-Addresses the contemporary context of academic, technical/vocational and comprehensive education
-Investigates theoretical approaches to educational politics (eg.: neoliberalism, pluralism, welfare state theories, Marxism)
-Explores school effectiveness, empowerment and improvement issues and gives consideration to the power of the school culture -Provides examples of educational policy issues in Greece and abroad.
Teaching and learning methods:
Lectures with the use of power point. Students are enforced to work in small groups and carry out projects (individual or collaborative work).
Language of instruction:
The language of instruction is Greek (some tutorials may be offered in English, depending on the audience).
